Responsibilities
- Lead multi-quarter initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams from scoping through production.
- Write exemplar code in critical paths and establish implementation standards.
- Review cross-team designs and balance quality, speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Define operational standards for monitoring, availability, scalability, security, release safety, and cost awareness.
- Help lead serious incidents and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Lead tool evaluations and architecture migrations, including build-versus-buy decisions.
- Use AI coding tools effectively while preventing unnecessary complexity.
- Define and monitor business success metrics and ensure launched work delivers merchant value.
- Mentor Senior Engineers and junior engineers and participate in senior-level interviews.
- Create and improve architecture documentation, decision records, and runbooks.
Requirements
- Typically 8+ years of experience building and shipping production software.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js, including REST and/or GraphQL APIs and distributed systems.
- Ability to work across multiple languages and technology stacks as a T-shaped engineer.
- Strong relational database, data modeling, and SQL skills, plus familiarity with NoSQL.
- Experience designing reliable, scalable cloud systems with CI/CD, observability, and incident-response practices.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs or agentic systems, or demonstrated ability to quickly adopt and apply new technology.
- Daily use of AI coding tools and sound judgment about when to trust them.
- Experience with eCommerce systems and platforms is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to explain technical trade-offs in business terms.
- Strong ownership, teamwork, and follow-through through live and stable production delivery.
