Responsibilities
- Lead architecture, design, integration, and deployment of Cisco 4G/5G SA and NSA core, converged packet core, and CUPS solutions for Japanese telecommunications carriers.
- Architect 5G UPF user planes and SBA control planes across Kubernetes, OpenStack, and bare-metal Telco Cloud environments.
- Design signaling call flows, session management, policy control, charging, subscriber data management, and network slicing using 3GPP standards.
- Direct project delivery across planning, design, implementation, lab staging, proof-of-concept benchmarking, migration strategy, operational runbooks, and live cutover governance.
- Advise carrier engineering directors and CTO stakeholders on technology roadmaps and architectural evolution.
- Mentor senior consulting engineers, drive delivery quality, and collaborate with Cisco Mobility BU and TAC teams to resolve software and protocol issues.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in service-provider mobile packet core architecture, engineering design, or delivery across 4G LTE EPC and 5G NSA/SA Core.
- Deep mastery of 3GPP mobile core protocols and interfaces including 5G SBA, HTTP/2, REST APIs, JSON, PFCP, GTP-C, GTP-U, Diameter, RADIUS, and BGP/MPLS routing.
- Experience architecting or deploying UPF, SMF, AMF, NRF, PCF, MME, SGW, PGW, and ePDG/N3IWF network functions.
- Hands-on experience with Telco Cloud and virtualization platforms including Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, KVM, SR-IOV, DPDK, and CNDP.
- Experience leading mission-critical network cutovers, software migrations, and performance benchmarking for tier-1 telecommunications carriers.
- Native or business-level Japanese fluency and professional working proficiency in English.
- Preferred experience with Cisco Ultra Cloud Core, Cloud Native 5G Core, Cisco StarOS, ASR 5500, and Cisco UCS.
- Preferred knowledge of 5G network slicing, Private 5G, MEC, and IMS/VoNR architecture.
- Preferred CCIE, CKA, or equivalent certification.
- Preferred scripting and automation experience with Python, Ansible, Terraform, or Linux shell tools for testing and CI/CD validation.
