Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computer vision models for defect detection, segmentation, and classification.
  • Accelerate model training using synthetic data, active learning, domain randomization, and augmentation.
  • Package models with Docker and manage production deployments through Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration.
  • Implement MLOps practices including version control, rollback strategies, observability, drift detection, monitoring, retraining, and failure analysis.
  • Optimize inference for NVIDIA Jetson, Intel accelerators, and other edge or embedded hardware to meet real-time inspection latency requirements.
  • Integrate vision systems with PLCs, encoders, triggers, and industrial networks using OPC-UA and MQTT.
  • Align deployments with Toyota's ICS+, GALC, and TVIP plant connectivity and reliability standards.
  • Lead defect-image collection campaigns, annotation workflows, model validation, calibration, and quality gates.
  • Meet uptime and availability targets through monitoring, backup and restore processes, and root-cause analysis.
  • Develop and evaluate deflectometry, reflection, multi-camera imaging, and optical AI technologies through on-site manufacturing trials.
  • Lead inspection-booth software deployments from concept through Start of Production and support North American rollout.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing sites, Toyota technical organizations, production engineering, IT, automation, and enterprise AI teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial machine vision and edge AI deployment.
  • At least 3 years of experience with AI/ML and camera-based vision systems.
  • Experience managing the full model lifecycle, including data collection, labeling, validation, rollout, monitoring, and retraining.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, and embedded hardware optimization.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, shutdowns, and multiple shifts, with up to 30% overtime.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% across the US, Canada, Mexico, other manufacturing sites, and Japan.
  • Preferred advanced degree and foundation in optical systems, computer vision, image processing, or AI automation.
  • Preferred research background in optical physics, including specular reflection, deflectometry, or multi-spectral imaging, applied to production deep learning.
  • Preferred 5+ years of software project management involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preferred experience integrating AI safety controls and optical fault handling into PFMEAs, camera-trigger reliability frameworks, and QCPs.
  • Preferred expertise in synthetic data generation using GANs, VAEs, NeRFs, Blender, and domain randomization.
  • Preferred experience with high-speed inline inspection, vision-based process control, IIoT data pipelines, and messaging standards.
