Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and optimize software systems for training and deploying machine-learning and agentic applications.
- Create and contribute to ML inference and training pipelines leveraging high-performance computing.
- Develop solutions spanning edge devices, embedded systems, single-server environments, scalable cloud systems, and on-premises infrastructure.
- Evaluate emerging ML frameworks, model-serving technologies, accelerators, and development tools.
- Collaborate with Hitachi Energy business units, external partners, universities, open-source communities, startups, and vendors to solve power-system challenges.
- Lead or contribute to research and development projects and provide technical consultancy to business units.
- Disseminate research results through scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong software-engineering skills in architecture, implementation, testing, and performance analysis.
- Hands-on experience building ML training and inference pipelines beyond notebook-based experimentation.
- Knowledge of model serving, APIs, containers, and deployment in cloud or on-premises environments.
- Familiarity with modern cluster and GPU/TPU-based HPC architectures on premises and in the cloud.
- Knowledge of modern design patterns, methodologies, programming languages, frameworks, and software stacks.
- Ability and willingness to combine conceptual research with hands-on engineering and work across interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience demonstrating team-oriented, innovative, and strategic working styles.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with large codebases, large or synthetic datasets, simulation-generated training data, ML lifecycle practices, experiment tracking, model evaluation, artifact management, monitoring, continuous integration, model serving with ONNX Runtime, Triton, or vLLM, and observability and evaluation of ML and agentic applications.
