Base Salary
$216k - $324k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own and drive high-impact technical objectives spanning multiple Data Platform teams, especially Data Lake.
- Align technical roadmaps, priorities, dependencies, and long-term platform direction across teams.
- Lead complex cross-team initiatives from discovery through rollout and long-term ownership.
- Make architectural decisions across lakehouse storage and compute, orchestration, modeled data layers, and operational automation.
- Establish reusable paved paths, standards, and abstractions that improve data-system onboarding and operations.
- Partner with engineering, product, analytics, AI/ML, and governance stakeholders.
- Maintain accountability for reliability, scalability, performance, cost, security, and operational excellence.
- Respond to complex platform issues and convert incident learnings into lasting improvements.
- Mentor senior and lead engineers through design reviews, RFC feedback, and architectural coaching.
- Participate in senior engineering hiring.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems, data platform architecture, and large-scale analytical processing.
- Expertise in one or more areas including lakehouse architecture, data ingestion and transformation, distributed compute, data warehousing, platform reliability, or developer-facing data infrastructure.
- Experience leading large, ambiguous, multi-quarter programs and making architectural decisions across teams.
- Hands-on experience with Iceberg-based storage, Spark or EMR-based compute, Airflow orchestration, Python data platform tooling, modeled data systems, and AWS-hosted infrastructure.
- Understanding of schema evolution, materialization patterns, observability, backfills, repairs, audits, access controls, and cost-aware platform operations.
- Ability to drive outcomes through influence and technical leadership and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring engineers and developing patterns, guidance, and growth opportunities for senior engineers and leads.
- Preferred experience with custom-built databases, CDM-style modeled data layers, Materialized Views, data governance, GDPR or HIPAA programs, and automation for backfills, repairs, optimization, autoscaling, or agentic engineering support.
