Base Salary
$164k - $280k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of backend software within a cross-functional engineering team.
- Make technical and system-level architectural decisions across an enterprise monolith and newer platform services.
- Drive production readiness through testing, reliability, observability, and operational practices.
- Establish engineering standards, code review practices, specification-driven development, test-driven development, and testing strategies across teams.
- Partner with product and engineering stakeholders to clarify scope, tradeoffs, dependencies, risks, and delivery decisions.
- Mentor engineers and help develop senior engineers into more independent contributors.
- Evaluate and integrate AI coding assistants and agentic development tools into design, coding, testing, and review workflows.
- Participate in design reviews, planning, estimation, prioritization, retrospectives, hiring, onboarding, documentation, and team learning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12+ years of engineering experience in a product engineering organization with progression into technical leadership.
- Deep backend experience with distributed systems and production-grade enterprise software.
- Strong Java and Spring Boot backend development experience.
- Experience making and defending system-level architectural decisions.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants or agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, including team adoption practices.
- Experience defining engineering standards, code review practices, specification-driven development, test-driven development, and testing strategy across multiple teams.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS services, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- React experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work across a complex enterprise monolith and a newer technology platform in parallel.
- Healthcare experience, especially revenue cycle management, claims processing, or billing, is a plus.
- Experience improving Agile delivery environments and adapting processes for AI-assisted delivery is preferred.
