Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Yocto/OpenEmbedded layers, recipes, images, root filesystems, BSPs, and distribution configurations.
- Lead board bring-up involving CBoot, UEFI, Linux kernel configuration, device tree development, and driver integration.
- Develop and maintain Docker container images for application deployment, platform configuration, and system integration.
- Support hardware bring-up, platform integration, system validation, manufacturing, and customer troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, electro-optics, and systems engineering teams.
- Produce technical documentation and participate in design and code reviews.
- Lead technical estimation, planning, scheduling, risk assessment, and review activities for assigned projects.
- Develop tests, improve coding and design guidelines, refactor software, mentor junior team members, and provide technical guidance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
- Extensive Embedded Linux experience, including Linux kernel architecture, system internals, userspace components, shell scripting, and development tooling.
- Hands-on Yocto Project/OpenEmbedded experience with recipes, custom layers, images, SDKs, and machine or distribution configurations.
- Strong knowledge of root filesystem design, systemd, package management, ext4, overlayfs, partitioning, and filesystem architectures.
- Experience with CBoot, UEFI, Linux kernel configuration, device trees, device drivers, hardware bring-up, and platform integration.
- Experience with C or C++, Arm-based processors, FPGA-based systems, RTOS technologies such as ThreadX or vxWorks, and embedded interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and CAN.
- Experience with Docker, containerized deployment, OTA update solutions such as Mender, RAUC, or SWUpdate, and Python scripting or automation.
- Experience in video or image processing, tracking and detection algorithms, avionics or defense applications, automated embedded testing, simulation or emulation, and complex electronic or FPGA-based systems is preferred.
- Experience with design patterns, embedded software architectures, Windows and Linux host environments, and technical leadership of software development projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in the local language where required.

- Pay range for the Ontario vacancy is $102000-$152000.
