Base Salary
$232k - $258k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Uber’s Android Bazel build graph, Starlark rules, Android/Kotlin/Java toolchains, and dependency management across a large monorepo.
- Improve local and CI build latency, reliability, cache performance, resource usage, and cost through remote caching, remote execution, graph pruning, parallelism, and CI sharding.
- Make local and CI results consistent and improve build-failure diagnosability through telemetry, retry policies, actionable errors, and cache-correctness improvements.
- Lead Bazel, Kotlin, Android toolchain, and dependency-automation upgrades and large-scale build migrations.
- Partner on smart test selection over the Bazel graph and define build-health metrics including latency, success rate, cache hit rate, and flakiness.
- Lead through technical direction, design documents, standards, mentoring, build incident response, and cross-team collaboration.
- Apply LLMs and AI agents to developer tooling such as automated build-failure diagnosis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of full-time engineering experience.
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and systematic problem solving.
- Strong understanding of Android development.
- Preferred experience with Bazel or Buck for Android, including Starlark, rules_android, rules_kotlin, build graphs, and dependency management.
- Preferred experience with remote build caching, remote execution, Android build internals, CI systems at scale, build observability, and flaky-test management.
- Preferred experience leading build migrations or upgrades, developing tooling in Kotlin/Java, applying LLMs or AI agents to developer tooling, and working across Android and iOS.
