
Lead IEC61850 Application Engineer
GE VernovaResponsibilities
- Develop in-depth technical expertise and execute engineering policies and strategies.
- Drive sustenance and feature enhancement of the IEC 61850 configuration tool.
- Define requirements and coordinate feature development with the Controls development community.
- Integrate software packages with existing systems and subsystems.
- Prepare unit-test and regression-test specifications, release packages, templates, and engineering documentation.
- Support software release testing and stay current with IEC 61850 protocol developments and applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in technology or engineering.
- 6–8 years of hands-on experience working with the IEC 61850 protocol.
- Awareness of IEC 61850 standards and experience with IEC 61850 multi-vendor devices and IEC 61850 9-2 Process Bus implementation.
- In-depth knowledge of the Java technology stack, including Eclipse Common Platform, Eclipse Modeling Framework, and Graphic Modeling Framework.
- Experience with substation automation communication protocols and UCA test procedures and tools such as Wireshark and MMS client tools.
- Knowledge of time-synchronization protocols including PTP and IRIG-B, and redundancy protocols including PRP and HSR.
- Preferred experience with IEC 61850 configuration tools, especially Helinks STS.
- Preferred exposure to Embedded C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, cybersecurity constructs, power electronics control system design, and HVDC.
- Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability, communication skills, and success working with global engineering teams.
