Responsibilities
- Build and run metrics, tracing, logging, alerting, and observability platforms while enabling product teams to own their observability.
- Evolve deployment pipelines, release management, infrastructure-as-code, environment management, and test infrastructure.
- Design secure, cost-effective, multi-tenant, multi-region AWS infrastructure across Australia, New Zealand, and the US.
- Build SOC 2 controls and compliance evidence into production infrastructure in partnership with IT Operations.
- Define SLOs and error budgets, improve incident response and learning practices, maintain runbooks, and participate in on-call.
- Build internal tools, abstractions, interfaces, documentation, and self-service capabilities that improve developer experience.
- Set technical direction, own a multi-quarter platform roadmap, identify high-leverage problems, and influence decisions across teams.
- Mentor engineers and raise organisational standards for reliability, operability, and developer experience.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery.
Requirements
- Approximately eight or more years of software engineering experience, with recent Staff-level or equivalent work in platform, infrastructure, or SRE.
- Deep production experience with cloud compute, networking, storage, IAM, cost management, and infrastructure-as-code, preferably AWS and Terraform.
- Track record of building and operating observability platforms that engineering teams rely on.
- Hands-on experience with SLOs, error budgets, incident response, and runbooks.
- Experience working on a platform team in a product engineering organisation and operating the platform as a product.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to set direction and drive outcomes independently.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools, agentic coding tools, or LLM-assisted workflows.
- Preferred experience includes high-volume observability, internal developer platforms, self-service tooling, data-intensive systems, multi-tenant SaaS authentication and identity, SOC 2 or regulated environments, chaos engineering, critical infrastructure, and technical writing or open-source contributions.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud architecture, Terraform, ECS, CI/CD and release strategies, observability systems, IAM, network segmentation, secrets management, and multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure patterns.
