$302k - $336k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and train large-scale sequence-based Transformer foundation models using Uber marketplace data.
- Define technical direction for foundation model architectures, training approaches, representation learning, and scaling.
- Develop embeddings and learned representations for downstream recommendations, ranking, personalization, and marketplace optimization systems.
- Influence scalable training infrastructure, distributed computing capabilities, and efficient large-model training and deployment approaches.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, make architectural decisions, establish best practices, and solve complex modeling challenges.
- Collaborate with researchers, senior technical leaders, and engineering teams across Uber to accelerate foundation model adoption and impact.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 10 years of relevant software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership and innovation.
- Extensive experience designing, building, and scaling deep learning systems and large-scale AI infrastructure.
- Strong software engineering and system design skills.
- Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Preferred: hands-on experience building, training, or scaling large foundation models, especially sequence-based Transformers.
- Preferred: deep expertise in AI/ML infrastructure, model training systems, distributed computing, pretraining, representation learning, embeddings, and sequence modeling.
- Ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives while contributing hands-on and influencing long-term architecture across organizations.
Benefits
- Base salary is USD $302,000–$336,000 per year for roles based in San Francisco, Seattle, or Sunnyvale.
- Eligibility for Uber’s bonus program and possible equity awards and other compensation.
