Base Salary
$168k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive the database reliability roadmap and architecture for high availability, replication, partitioning, storage, and connection management.
- Build Kubernetes operators, infrastructure automation, and production tooling in Go or Python for provisioning, failover, backups, schema migrations, and lifecycle management.
- Define service-level objectives, monitor database health and performance, validate backup and recovery processes, and lead critical production incidents.
- Optimize capacity, cost, storage, workloads, and database performance across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Partner with application engineers on schema reviews, migration strategies, query optimization, connection management, and zero-downtime deployments.
- Use AI tools for observability, anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, documentation, predictive insights, and engineering productivity while validating generated code.
- Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, influence technical direction, support hiring, and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience in Database Reliability Engineering, Database Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering with a strong database focus.
- Technical leadership experience delivering complex database infrastructure projects at scale.
- Deep expertise in at least one major relational database, preferably PostgreSQL, plus operational experience with MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, ScyllaDB, Aerospike, Aurora, Cloud SQL, and other managed cloud database services.
- Experience operating stateful workloads on Kubernetes with technologies such as StatefulSets, Persistent Volumes, database operators, Terraform, Pulumi, FluxCD, ArgoCD, GKE, and EKS.
- Hands-on Go or Python development experience for automation, platform tooling, Kubernetes controllers, APIs, and infrastructure.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, service-level objectives, capacity planning, performance optimization, and self-service engineering solutions.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and MCP, with sound judgment for validating AI-generated outputs.
- Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, documentation, collaboration, and architectural decision-making skills.
