Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Responsibilities
- Lead technical planning, system architecture, and scaling efforts for AI-powered products and 0-to-1 product builds
- Write high-quality code and build proof-of-concepts to validate architecture options and solve complex technical challenges
- Mentor backend engineers, identify systemic technical debt, resolve blockers, and improve engineering excellence
- Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to convert ambiguous business goals into well-architected initiatives
- Maintain a healthy backlog of forward-looking, build-ready work
- Embed AI-assisted development workflows into daily engineering practices and help shape responsible organizational use of AI
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional engineering experience focused on web development and leading high-impact technical work
- Experience operating at a senior-to-staff level and owning system design and architectural decisions for high-scale or high-growth products
- Strong backend development experience with Kotlin; TypeScript experience is a plus
- Understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS and Kubernetes
- Hands-on experience integrating AI models and LLMs into customer-facing products
- Experience in early-stage, startup, or high-innovation environments with rapid shipping and iteration
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with Product Managers, Designers, and engineering teams
- Experience with or enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code
