Base Salary
$237k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for 3D scoping, estimates, scope-to-order, material catalogs, pricing, and ordering across insurance and homeowner projects.
- Design data flows from inspection information into the estimates engine to reduce duplicate user input.
- Build estimates that support enterprise carriers and export cleanly to Xactimate and Cotality.
- Spend approximately two days per week designing and coding while reviewing code and unblocking engineers.
- Set engineering quality and throughput standards across engineers at multiple levels.
- Partner with product, design, insurance integrations, and materials platform teams on shared product surfaces.
- Work directly with adjusters and contractors to understand workflows and turn property data into scope, cost, and design recommendations.
- Provide engineering managers with technical assessments of engineers and help hire new team members.
Requirements
- Experience operating as a Staff Software Engineer or equivalent and setting technical direction across multiple engineers.
- Deep backend and systems design expertise with ownership of a complex domain end to end.
- Experience building customer-facing products and working directly with customers to understand their workflows.
- Clear, direct communication and the ability to contribute to product and business decisions.
- Comfort making progress while product and technical direction are still being defined.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL, or a comparable stack.
- Preferred experience shipping LLM or agent-based features to customers and using AI tools in engineering work.
- Preferred experience with catalog, pricing, quoting, or CPQ systems.
- Preferred experience in construction, restoration, insurance claims, field service, or vertical software replacing paper or spreadsheet workflows.
- Preferred experience with estimatics platforms such as Xactimate or Cotality.
- Preferred experience in a strong engineering organization and at a startup, including helping a team or product scale.
