Responsibilities
- Assess institutional needs and implement AI-enabled services on high-performance AI computing platforms.
- Design, develop, deploy, fine-tune, evaluate, and benchmark AI/ML models and solutions, including LLMs, agentic systems, and multimodal foundation models.
- Build shared AI architecture, secure environments, safety guardrails, sandboxing, and reproducible evaluation frameworks.
- Optimize distributed and multi-GPU training and inference, HPC scheduling, GPU utilization, cost, latency, and resource efficiency.
- Safeguard sensitive research data through access controls, privacy practices, secrets management, audit logging, and institutional security policies.
- Own AI systems beyond the prototype stage, including observability, versioning, rollback, cost control, and incident response.
- Develop standards, operating procedures, architecture roadmaps, reference architectures, demonstrations, workshops, and training materials.
- Collaborate with scientists, business stakeholders, analysts, information systems professionals, teams, and vendors.
- Evaluate commercial and open-source AI/ML, data mining, and analytics approaches for non-trivial business and research problems.
Requirements
- Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, information technology, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience designing and developing large-scale AI/ML systems or building AI/ML product features.
- Strong experience with deep learning, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, and industry AI use cases.
- Experience with TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, time series analysis, anomaly detection, forecasting, predictive modeling, graph-based neural networks, Bayesian statistics, and text analytics.
- Preferred hands-on experience training, fine-tuning, or adapting LLMs or multimodal foundation models, including PEFT/LoRA, instruction tuning, and preference optimization.
- Preferred experience troubleshooting distributed or multi-GPU training and inference, CUDA and NCCL issues, HPC scheduling with Slurm, and GPU utilization across nodes.
- Preferred experience designing agentic-system safety guardrails, tool-access scoping, prompt-injection defenses, secrets management, audit logging, and failure containment.
- Preferred experience optimizing inference through KV-cache management, quantization, batching, speculative decoding, and high-throughput serving.
- Preferred experience building scalable AI/ML pipelines on HPC or cloud environments and rigorous benchmarking frameworks.
- Preferred contributions to open-source AI/ML infrastructure or a public technical track record through GitHub, Hugging Face, or papers.
- PhD in data science, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Biomedical research, imaging, regulated health data, technical leadership, mentoring, standards-setting, and cross-team collaboration experience are preferred.
