Responsibilities

  • Design and develop diagnostic, manufacturing test, stress-test, and inspection software for custom SoCs and PlayStation hardware.
  • Define test items, pass/fail criteria, inspection sequences, and test specifications based on expected defects and quality requirements.
  • Perform hardware evaluation, SoC validation, prototype chip and hardware bring-up, and analysis of defects using logs, register values, and test results.
  • Develop and evaluate boot firmware, bootloaders, BIOS/UEFI, Linux kernels, device drivers, hardware initialization, boot sequences, and power-state transitions.
  • Design and operate automated test environments using multiple evaluation devices, including build, distribution, test execution, result collection, and log aggregation.
  • Develop regression, endurance, stress-testing, monitoring, control, and recovery capabilities for large-scale evaluation equipment.
  • Introduce inspection software into manufacturing, provide post-deployment technical support, and improve test stability, execution time, coverage, and log quality.
  • Collaborate with semiconductor vendors, design partners, and internal SoC, system software, product design, manufacturing, and quality teams to reproduce issues, request fixes, and confirm corrections.

Requirements

  • Experience developing software with C/C++.
  • Experience developing or debugging software in a Linux environment.
  • Ability to logically isolate problems occurring across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries.
  • Experience independently driving assigned technical issues to resolution in collaboration with related teams.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: boot firmware, bootloaders, BIOS/UEFI, Linux kernels, device drivers, hardware-control or diagnostic software, stress testing, manufacturing test, hardware validation, prototype chip bring-up, CPU/GPU/SoC or related hardware validation, Jenkins-based CI/CD and automated test environments, or cross-layer defect analysis.
  • Preferred qualifications include assembly or CPU/GPU-specific low-level optimization, knowledge of memory, cache, buses, DMA, interrupts, PCIe, USB, storage, and networking, simulation or emulation experience, test specification development, large-scale regression testing, semiconductor vendor collaboration, and technical or project leadership.
  • Ability to read English technical specifications and exchange technical information with overseas semiconductor vendors and engineers by email and in meetings.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to directly influence PlayStation quality by deploying personally developed inspection software into manufacturing.
  • Exposure to the full lifecycle from test specification and implementation through hardware evaluation, defect analysis, and mass-production introduction.
  • Opportunity to deepen expertise across boot firmware, Linux kernels, device drivers, and SoC functions while collaborating with global semiconductor vendors and internal engineering teams.
  • The role supports development toward either a technical specialist or a technical lead career path.
