Responsibilities
- Analyze existing multi-product architecture before proposing changes.
- Assess code and design quality, including correctness on money and stock paths, security posture, and coupling between product lines.
- Write RFCs and architecture decision records covering assumptions, failure modes, capacity, and security.
- Design scalable services with clear boundaries, minimized dependencies, and migration paths.
- Make extend-versus-rebuild decisions and diagnose issues across service boundaries.
- Design for peak load, abuse prevention, idempotency, rate limits, and velocity checks.
- Work with multi-currency payments, fraud and abuse exposure, PCI DSS scope, third-party supplier integrations, and traffic spikes up to 65 times baseline.
- Pair with the client’s engineering manager and team and contribute within existing planning, standup, and design review practices.
Requirements
- Roughly 5–8 years of software engineering experience and the ability to work autonomously without supervision.
- Strong Node.js development and software architecture experience.
- Ability to design services using bounded contexts and minimize cross-service dependencies.
- Experience designing for peak load and validating service and dependency limits through testing.
- Ability to build reusable components with documentation and migration paths.
- Ability to write architecture decision records and RFCs with clear reasoning and trade-offs.
- Testing experience that covers edge cases and failure scenarios.
- Working command of OWASP Top 10 and secure-by-default practices, including secrets management, input validation, and data handling.
- Ability to explain every line of AI-generated code that is shipped.
- Strong written English for asynchronous collaboration through RFCs and code reviews.
- Collaborative communication style focused on evidence, options, trade-offs, and reasoned technical decisions.
