Responsibilities

  • Lead system design, domain modeling, service decomposition, architecture decisions, and technical documentation for distributed OMS systems.
  • Write, review, and guide production-quality backend code while establishing practical engineering standards and reducing technical debt.
  • Design for production reliability, participate in on-call rotations, define SLOs and error budgets, and maintain operational documentation.
  • Implement observability strategies using structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, dashboards, and signal-rich alerting.
  • Design for seasonal traffic spikes, flash sales, global expansion, high throughput, and high availability through scalability and performance practices.
  • Lead capacity planning, load testing, performance profiling, complex incident response, war rooms, and blameless post-incident reviews.
  • Partner with product managers, architects, and engineers on technical roadmaps and mentor mid-level engineers through reviews, pairing, and coaching.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience focused on backend systems, distributed architectures, and platform or product engineering at scale.
  • Deep practical experience designing and modeling complex distributed systems and making architectural trade-offs under constraints.
  • Experience operating systems in a 'you build it, you run it' culture, including on-call participation and incident response.
  • Experience with high-throughput, high-availability systems and production-scale performance and reliability challenges.
  • Expert-level observability experience, including instrumentation, dashboards, alerting, and telemetry-driven engineering decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience decoupling tightly coupled systems, migrating monoliths, extracting services, or creating asynchronous contracts.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture, domain-driven design, and modern API design patterns.
  • Mastery of CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical complexity to non-technical partners and produce design documents, ADRs, incident reports, and code reviews.
  • Experience collaborating with geographically distributed, multi-time-zone teams.
  • Experience with Order Management Systems, fulfillment pipelines, or commerce platforms is a meaningful plus.

Benefits

  • Hybrid schedule based at the San Francisco headquarters, with an expectation of working in the office three days per week, typically Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Full-time role expected to be filled by October 10, 2026.
  • Benefits include incentive plans, 401(k) matching, paid leave, health insurance, product discounts, and additional total rewards.
