Responsibilities
- Design, estimate, and implement technical solutions for medium- and high-complexity applications.
- Analyze, refactor, consolidate, and redesign C applications during the migration from UNIX/AIX to Linux RedHat and AWS.
- Participate in all phases of the application development lifecycle.
- Clarify requirements, processes, architecture, and priorities with project stakeholders.
- Promote engineering standards, tools, and practices, including DevOps practices.
- Propose improvements and escalate development risks and issues.
- Review work completed by development team members.
- Apply new technologies, practices, and tools as appropriate to the project.
- Take responsibility for others' work and allocate resources.
- Influence teams, customers, and suppliers while making decisions affecting project and team objectives.
- Design solutions autonomously and articulate them to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with strong, demonstrable expertise in plain C.
- Strong UNIX experience across AIX and Linux RedHat, including proven ability to port and refactor applications between them.
- Experience with Korn shell/ksh and Bash scripting for build, run, and deployment tasks.
- Proficiency with Make/Makefiles, gcc, gdb, and core-dump analysis.
- Experience refactoring and consolidating applications, including redesign work during migrations.
- Ability to work autonomously and take end-to-end ownership.
- Good communication skills for explaining solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred: SQL and relational database experience with DB2 and Oracle, including embedded SQL using Pro*C or ESQL/C.
- Preferred: Experience with sockets, TCP/IP, and inter-process communication for integrations and messaging.
- Preferred: Understanding of endianness, data-type sizes, and compiler differences between AIX POWER and Linux x86.
- Preferred: Payments or financial transaction processing knowledge, including ISO 8583, card and transaction switching, or PCI DSS.
- Preferred: Git and GitHub experience, with source control migration from SCCS to GitHub.
- Preferred: Harness or comparable enterprise CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins.
- Preferred: AWS familiarity, Linux administration, Docker/containerisation, or Terraform/IaC.
- Preferred: Experience integrating with external clients and third-party systems.
