Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and microservices with emphasis on performance, reliability, and resilience.
- Develop production backend services primarily in Java, Node.js, and Go.
- Design, document, and maintain robust, versioned REST APIs.
- Contribute to containerized microservices architecture and deploy applications with Docker.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on production monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
- Troubleshoot complex issues in distributed production systems.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, and engineering teams to deliver reliable features.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of professional backend software development experience.
- Strong production experience with Java, Node.js, and Go.
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture, service boundaries, inter-service communication, API governance, scalability, resilience, and fault tolerance.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Comfort working in Linux environments and proficiency with Git.
- Understanding of concurrency, networking, and backend performance.
- Experience with production logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability concepts.
- Ability to diagnose issues across multiple services, containers, and infrastructure layers.
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or computer science, or equivalent professional experience.
- Working or fluent English and legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Experience with embedded systems, C#, telecommunications, network monitoring, fiber-optic networks, event-driven architectures, real-time systems, iOS, Android, or AI coding assistants is an asset.
