Base Salary
$86k - $155k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead computationally focused agentic-AI research and engineering projects with moderate manager supervision.
- Design and orchestrate agent hierarchies, tool use, handoffs, checkpointing, and human-in-the-loop controls.
- Build and maintain MCP servers and clients and A2A-interoperable agents connected to St. Jude data and operational systems.
- Instrument agents with tracing, evaluations, guardrails, and cost and latency budgets.
- Identify, process, summarize, review, and report results; draft manuscripts and technical reports.
- Guide and mentor staff on agentic-AI techniques, best practices, and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field plus 6+ years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree plus 4+ years; or an entry-level PhD with no work experience.
- One to two first-author papers in journals with an impact factor above 5, or equivalent contributions to research or open-source projects.
- Strong Python skills and experience with agent frameworks, interoperability protocols, orchestration, evaluation, observability, identity, security, deployment, testing, version control, and reproducible evaluation harnesses.
- Depth in at least one agent framework and working awareness across agent interoperability, control loops, evaluation, identity, secure deployment, and retrieval/context engineering.
- Preferred experience with applied ML or agentic-AI research, shipping LLM-integrated systems, and healthcare, biomedical, or research-intensive domains.
- Project coordination, maintenance, and research support experience are preferred.
- A PhD requirement may be waived for an extraordinarily unusual level of scientific contribution.

- Estimated base salary range is $86,320-$154,960 per year.
