Responsibilities
- Lead the data engineering team in designing, developing, and maintaining data applications.
- Architect and implement backend solutions and scalable systems for Walmart’s advertising and marketing platform.
- Champion AI use in data engineering and lead engineering and operational excellence efforts.
- Gather requirements with product teams and translate them into technical specifications.
- Design, build, test, and deploy solutions at scale.
- Mentor junior developers and enforce coding standards and best practices.
- Conduct code reviews, fix bugs, and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
- Monitor systems, identify root causes, and escalate systemic issues.
- Develop data analytics pipelines with data science teams and enable platform use by data scientists, business partners, and product teams.
- Lead discovery and high-level design for medium to large projects and collaborate with engineering teams across geographies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus four years of software engineering or related experience, or six years of software engineering or related experience without the degree.
- The position summary requests a BS or MS degree in computer science or a related technical field and cites 10+ years of experience.
- Experience with Spark, Hive, BigQuery, Java, and Python.
- Experience bootstrapping production and non-production environments in public or private cloud environments.
- Strong Linux systems knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot complex, distributed, multi-tier architectures.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, written communication, verbal communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Preferred: master’s degree in a relevant computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related field plus two years of software engineering or related experience.
- Ability to learn quickly, follow industry trends, and work effectively across multiple teams.
