Responsibilities
- Build and ship Android client features for WhatsApp services, with emphasis on performance, reliability, memory footprint, constrained networks, and low- and mid-tier devices.
- Own Android client architecture for payments, commerce, and money-centric services surfaces.
- Develop with Kotlin, Java, and the Android SDK while partnering with server and platform teams on API design.
- Set technical direction and team goals, lead major initiatives end to end, and drive cross-functional execution.
- Architect efficient and scalable systems, resolve performance and scalability issues, and reduce technical debt.
- Own significant components, features, or systems with expert end-to-end understanding.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship, onboard team members, and raise engineering quality.
- Collaborate with product management, design, data science, operations, payments, legal, compliance, and local operations partners to ship reliable and compliant services in India.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of programming experience in a relevant language, or 4+ years of experience with a PhD.
- Demonstrated experience driving organizational change and leading complex technical projects.
- Experience using data and analysis to explain technical problems and provide detailed feedback and solutions.
- Preferred experience building Android applications with Java or Kotlin and the Android SDK.
- Preferred experience with multithreading, mobile memory management, low-end device optimization, constrained networks, and app size optimization.
- Preferred familiarity with UPI, India’s digital payments ecosystem, and payment systems at scale.
- Preferred experience with monetization, payments, commerce, AI/ML products, 0-to-1 products, global consumer products, distributed teams, or messaging platforms.
- Preferred ability to integrate AI tools, implement responsible and ethical AI practices, and develop skills in prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration.
