Responsibilities
- Translate business and technical requirements into solution architecture blueprints, documentation, traceability materials, and process or capability assessments.
- Lead evaluation, design, and analysis of solution architectures across business applications, platforms, integrations, and enterprise technologies.
- Design secure integrations and manage high-volume transactional clinical and specimen data across diagnostic systems.
- Develop current-state assessments, future-state architecture roadmaps, technology strategies, and modernization recommendations.
- Consult with application and infrastructure teams, product managers, program management, and agile teams to align delivery with enterprise architecture.
- Evaluate software products, services, vendors, configurations, costs, and proof-of-concept implementations.
- Establish and govern architecture principles, standards, patterns, reference models, scorecards, and assurance activities.
- Support architecture review boards and communities of practice while ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture governance.
- Architect connectivity among laboratory instruments, LIS platforms, clinical systems, and external EHR/EMR systems.
- Provide technical leadership for Epic, healthcare interoperability, cloud-native, middleware, database, and data-platform initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience serving as an architect in the healthcare and diagnostics industry.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science and engineering, or relevant work experience.
- Direct experience with InterSystems IRIS/Cache for specialized, high-volume transactional clinical databases is highly desired.
- Technical understanding of ASTM device communication protocols, HL7 LIS interfaces, and instrument manager middleware such as Data Innovations.
- Knowledge of backend development with Java, Spring Boot, Python, and .NET.
- Proficiency with MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
- Proficiency with API management and integration technologies such as MuleSoft and IBM MQ.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Angular, and React.
- Experience with Azure, GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, distributed data frameworks, and cloud-native architecture.
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, AI/ML platform architecture, MLOps, data governance, lineage, and metadata management.
- Experience leading global architecture review boards and establishing formal architecture governance.
- Knowledge of TOGAF, Zachman, reference architectures, enterprise roadmaps, API-first design, event-driven architectures, microservices, LIMS, ELN, and EHR/EMR integrations.
- Strong practical understanding of clinical laboratory workflows, specimen processing, diagnostic testing, laboratory automation, analyzers, and LIS systems.
- Hands-on experience architecting connectivity with external EHR/EMR platforms such as Cerner and Athenahealth.
- Experience with HL7 v2, HL7 v3, and FHIR profiles.
- Epic Systems integration experience, especially Epic Beaker LIS, Epic Care Everywhere, or Epic Bridges, is a strong plus.
- Preferred qualifications include TOGAF or Zachman certification; professional or expert AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications; CKA/CKAD; Databricks or Snowflake certifications; and reputable Data Science, AI/ML, or Generative AI certifications.

- Hybrid work requires three days onsite at the Secaucus, NJ or Schaumburg, IL site; the position may be 100% remote when outside the applicable hub criteria.
