Responsibilities
- Lead FPGA firmware architecture, requirements definition, and technical design for medical-device platforms.
- Develop and maintain FPGA firmware using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog, including video-processing pipelines and control systems.
- Drive hardware-firmware integration with system, hardware, software, and verification teams.
- Define and execute firmware verification and validation strategies, coding standards, linting rules, testing frameworks, and quality gates.
- Support development automation, CI/CD workflows, AI-enabled engineering practices, and continuous improvement while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Lead distributed and cross-functional engineering teams and influence firmware strategies and technical roadmaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of FPGA and firmware development experience, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
- Expert knowledge of FPGA architecture, digital design, and system-level firmware development.
- Advanced experience with VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx/AMD Zynq UltraScale+ SoC, AXI interconnect, PS/DDR integration, and the Vivado toolchain.
- Experience leading distributed and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of firmware verification, validation, and quality assurance methodologies.
- Fluent English and intermediate German language skills.
- Residence within commuting distance of Erlangen or willingness to relocate.
- Preferred qualifications include regulated-industry or safety-critical experience, Yocto/QNX/OpenEmbedded build-system experience, Zynq UltraScale+ PS/PL co-development, embedded-systems architecture, hardware-firmware integration, safety-critical verification strategies, and CI/CD and engineering-productivity improvements.
