Responsibilities

  • Build compiler backend code-generation passes that produce correct and efficient code for the company’s custom hardware.
  • Own scheduling, tiling, fusion, dispatch, memory planning, and resource-allocation decisions for LLM inference.
  • Collaborate with hardware architects on compiler and hardware abstractions while the chip design evolves.
  • Validate optimizations using simulators, FPGA prototypes, and eventual silicon, and maintain a performance regression suite.
  • Coordinate with frontend compiler engineers on lowered programs and determine which operations use generated code versus hand-tuned kernels.

Requirements

  • Deep experience with compiler optimization or code generation for accelerators or other non-CPU targets, including areas such as scheduling, tiling, fusion, or resource allocation.
  • Comfort working close to hardware and reasoning about memory bandwidth, utilization, and asymptotic complexity.
  • Willingness to design compilation approaches from first principles when existing approaches do not fit the hardware.
  • Track record of shipping optimizations that improve measured performance.
  • Experience building software for evolving hardware, from simulation through bring-up.
  • Fluency in Python and familiarity with C, C++, or Rust.
  • Preferred experience includes PyTorch compilation tools, ML compilers, in-memory or spatial computing, hardware design tools, cycle-level or performance simulators, open-source compiler or kernel infrastructure, or publishing compiler and performance work.

About Normal Computing Corporation

51-200 employees

At Normal, we're rewriting AI foundations to advance the frontier of reasoning and reliability in the physical world. We are tackling problems across semiconductors and industrials with a mix of interdisciplinary approaches across the full stack: from probabilistic software infrastructure and algorithms to hardware and physics, enabling AI that can reason and understand its own limits. We understand that our technology is only as powerful as the people behind it. Every employee drives significant impact within our products, often working directly with customers and embedding across our tightly-knit team. Our team members are driven by curiosity and passion for solving some of the most challenging problems in the world of atoms. Normal was founded in 2022 by engineers and scientists that pioneered industry-leading Physics + ML tools for next-gen AI at Google Brain and Google X.
