Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and strategic evolution of the ABB Melody Controller platform, including its technology roadmap and modernization strategy.
- Manage the software lifecycle, technical debt, component modernization, cybersecurity, compliance, and long-term maintainability.
- Lead complex software features and enablers from requirements definition through implementation and product release.
- Integrate and diagnose industrial communication and fieldbus solutions, including interoperability and system integration.
- Support critical customer and field issue resolution in collaboration with Service, Product Management, and Business teams.
- Continuously improve software quality, configuration management, cybersecurity, and compliance across the product lifecycle.
- Coach and mentor development engineers and facilitate technical decisions across teams and organizational boundaries.
- Contribute to PI Planning, Backlog Refinement, Release Planning, and prioritization of architecture and lifecycle initiatives.
Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field.
- At least 10 years of experience in embedded software and firmware development for industrial automation, control, or process control systems.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with real-time operating systems, particularly VxWorks.
- Experience developing complex embedded systems and long-lifecycle controller firmware, including architecture, implementation, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
- Practical experience integrating, implementing, and diagnosing industrial communication and fieldbus technologies such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, HART, Modbus TCP, IEC 61850, or OPC UA.
- Experience with software quality, configuration management, compliance, and cybersecurity for industrial software products.
- Hands-on experience with SonarQube, Black Duck, and DSAC.
- Experience specifying, estimating, and implementing complex software features and enablers, and working with user stories and agile development processes, ideally in a SAFe environment.
- Strong analytical, communication, and technical leadership skills, including experience coaching and mentoring development engineers.
- Experience collaborating with global, cross-functional teams.
- Fluent written and spoken English and business-fluent German.
