Responsibilities
- Design and implement routing, link-state management, congestion-control, fault-tolerant transport, and other networking protocols for inter-satellite and satellite-to-ground communication.
- Develop distributed mesh-network algorithms that adapt to orbital motion, intermittent connectivity, changing topology, and variable link quality.
- Architect and implement SDN-based control-plane frameworks for topology management, policy enforcement, and cross-link orchestration.
- Integrate encryption, authentication, secure routing, and other cybersecurity protections into the communications stack.
- Implement real-time communication software for radiation-tolerant processors and constrained onboard computing environments.
- Develop networking simulation and emulation frameworks and contribute to system architecture, protocol selection, interface definitions, and end-to-end communication strategy.
- Ensure reliability through redundancy, error handling, watchdog systems, autonomous recovery, and secure failover mechanisms.
- Collaborate with RF, DSP, FPGA, security, hardware, and software teams and participate in code reviews, design reviews, testing, and mission-readiness activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of networking software development experience for distributed, embedded, or real-time systems.
- Strong expertise in networking protocols, distributed systems, cross-layer optimization, and software-defined networking.
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Rust, or similar programming languages, with experience in embedded or resource-constrained environments.
- Experience with embedded Linux and firmware development, wireless networking, link-layer behavior, and dynamic topology management.
- Ability to design and drive end-to-end test campaigns and familiarity with networking simulation tools.
- Hands-on cybersecurity experience covering encryption, secure communication protocols, key management, authentication frameworks, and secure boot.
- Knowledge of LEO, MEO, and GEO orbital dynamics and their effects on network topology and link performance.
- Experience with DTN, MANETs, or self-organizing mesh networks is preferred.
