Responsibilities
- Build and operate Okta as the workforce identity provider, including SSO, SAML/OIDC integrations, SCIM provisioning, and joiner/mover/leaver automation.
- Design authentication and authorization primitives such as MFA, device assurance, RBAC, least-privilege role catalogs, and break-glass access.
- Federate AWS and GCP access using short-lived credentials instead of long-lived IAM users and service-account keys.
- Maintain entitlements-as-code in the GitOps monorepo through reviewable pull requests.
- Build workload and headless identity infrastructure, including private CA/PKI, AWS Roles Anywhere, GCP WIF-X509, and hardware-backed key custody.
- Define Identity Assurance Level requirements according to NIST SP 800-63-3.
- Partner with IT, security, and application teams while application teams retain ownership of authorization business logic.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience in Go, Java, or a similar systems language.
- Experience designing or operating identity systems, including SSO/IdP, authentication and authorization, entitlements, or workload identity.
- Working knowledge of OIDC, SAML, and SCIM, including judgment about when to use each.
- Experience with cryptographic identity primitives such as PKI, mTLS, or hardware-backed keys.
- Ability to make durable technical decisions and operate with high ownership in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
