Responsibilities
- Own architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS, and Android.
- Build and ship the foundations of the new mobile platform, including performance, reliability, and observability capabilities.
- Launch a React Native surface in production and provide stable platform primitives for product teams.
- Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the migration to the new architecture.
- Drive adoption across major product teams and establish trusted mobile platform patterns and standards.
- Remain hands-on with difficult implementation details while providing technical direction across the organization.
Requirements
- Experience building or significantly evolving a large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture in production.
- Experience leading a meaningful migration of a mature, live mobile product to a new architecture.
- Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams, including setting direction adopted by Staff-level engineers.
- Experience shaping architecture, platforms, standards, or technical direction across multiple groups or a large engineering organization.
- Strong hands-on engineering depth and judgment, including data structures, complexity, and system-level trade-offs.
- Deep fundamentals across iOS and Android, including shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery, device performance, reliability, crash monitoring, and optimization.
- Preferred experience with React Native and React internals, Rust or C/C++, React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, Expo, mobile release infrastructure, or open-source contributions.
- Experience using AI tooling in real engineering work is a nice-to-have.
