Responsibilities
- Own and harden the ClickHouse-based storage layer, including schema design and ingestion and query performance tuning.
- Design and own ingestion pipelines from event streams and durable workflows built on Temporal.
- Build reliable historical-data APIs and platform capabilities for internal product teams and external customers.
- Implement indexing, caching, and tiered storage to maintain performant reads and writes at scale.
- Lead architecture discussions, document technical decisions, and help determine data-domain migration priorities.
- Use Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar to monitor ingestion lag, query latency, and data correctness.
- Take ambiguous data problems from design through production and improve underlying systems, processes, and team practices.
- Raise engineering quality through design reviews, mentoring, and direct feedback.
Requirements
- 5+ years building and operating production backend systems.
- Hands-on experience with ingestion pipelines, event-driven architectures, analytical datastores, or time-series datastores.
- Experience designing schemas and tuning queries for high-volume workloads; ClickHouse or another columnar database is a strong plus.
- Strong Go skills, or strength in a comparable language with willingness to work in Go, including interface design, data modeling, service integration, and concurrency.
- Understanding of delivery guarantees, idempotency, backpressure, failure recovery, and distributed-systems tradeoffs.
- Experience leading complex system designs and making deliberate technical tradeoffs.
- Track record of shipping systems used by real users with latency, reliability, and correctness as design concerns.
- Daily use of AI tools and ability to explain how they have influenced engineering work.
- Familiarity with React and TypeScript is a plus.
