Responsibilities
- Design and develop IOS-XR forwarding features including QoS, mirroring, slowpath, OAM, EVPN, VPLS, SRv6, Segment Routing, and MPLS.
- Implement data-plane logic, NPU microcode, and SDK interactions for efficient packet processing.
- Debug software defects using logs, core dumps, packet traces, and hardware-software analysis.
- Profile and optimize forwarding software to reduce latency and maximize throughput.
- Use AI/LLM tools for code generation, unit-test creation, static analysis, and debugging.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of embedded software development experience for networking products.
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C and Python for scripting and test automation.
- Knowledge of NPU-based data-plane architectures, pipelining, table management, and packet-processing flows.
- Implementation experience with Layer 2/Layer 3 forwarding and protocols including EVPN, VPLS, SRv6, Segment Routing, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6, TE tunnels, GRE tunnels, BFD, BGP Flowspec, ACLs, or slowpath forwarding.
- Understanding of service-provider router deployments and ability to debug component-level hardware, software, and memory-management issues.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, code reviews, ClearCase, Valgrind, DDTS, and GDB.
- Preferred qualifications include IOS-XR or carrier-grade operating-system experience, BCM/Silicon One/Ezchip NPU programming, and familiarity with AI/ML software-engineering tools such as Copilot.
