Senior Software Engineer, AI Agent & Experience Team
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship AI platform infrastructure such as the LLM proxy, AI key management, and observability pipelines.
- Develop autonomous agents and developer tooling integrations, including GitHub applications and MCP integrations.
- Build and extend the internal plugin marketplace and create plugins that encode architectural and quality standards into AI assistant behavior.
- Implement MCP services and service templates for AI-powered workflows.
- Write well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, and platform teams to translate developer needs into reliable platform solutions.
- Contribute to adoption of agentic development practices and use AI tools to improve development workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience designing and implementing scalable backend services.
- Experience building, deploying, or operating LLM-powered agents or AI-assisted developer tooling.
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, including extending them through plugins, skills, or hooks.
- Experience with MCP, tool-use patterns, or similar agentic integration frameworks.
- Working knowledge of prompt engineering and LLM behavior in response to context and instructions.
- Strong foundation in Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented language.
- Experience with distributed systems, REST APIs, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Strong customer empathy and a focus on reliable developer platform solutions.
- Preferred experience with A2A protocols, multi-agent orchestration, machine learning concepts, model evaluation, ML infrastructure, developer experience platforms, internal tooling, API gateways, and AI/LLM observability tooling such as Langfuse and DataDog.
