Base Salary
$125k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop deterministic, safety-critical control software on Linux-based real-time operating systems, including scheduling, timing, and fault-tolerant control logic.
- Build and maintain industrial fieldbus masters and stacks for real-time closed-loop control of distributed actuators, drives, and I/O.
- Develop drivers and interfaces for scientific instrumentation, sensors, and high-speed data acquisition hardware.
- Own software from development through deployment, including automated build, test, and validation infrastructure.
- Perform safety analyses and validate control logic under normal and fault conditions.
- Integrate firmware and software with hardware in collaboration with hardware, electrical, and controls engineering teams.
- Lead debugging, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements across the software-to-hardware stack using laboratory instrumentation.
- Contribute to integrated system testing, commissioning, and continuous improvement of embedded software on production equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- At least 5 years of experience developing embedded, real-time, or low-level systems software.
- Production-level experience with C, C++, or Rust.
- Hands-on experience with real-time systems, hardware/software integration, deterministic timing, concurrency, and device driver development.
- Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations from first principles with partial information.
- Preferred experience with EtherCAT, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, real-time Linux, PREEMPT_RT, Xenomai, RTOS platforms, driver and kernel development, sensor bring-up, and data acquisition hardware.
- Preferred experience designing fault-tolerant distributed control systems and working with automated testing, simulation, or hardware-in-the-loop frameworks.
- Preferred background in safety-critical, high-reliability, or regulated industrial environments such as chemical, energy, aerospace, robotics, or semiconductor industries.
- Preferred demonstrated technical leadership in setting engineering standards and building and mentoring engineering teams.
- Preferred experience in a fast-paced, startup-like engineering environment.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
