Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide technical leadership for software supporting commercial aviation products, applications, and systems.
  • Write software using Swift, Objective-C, SwiftUI, and UIKit.
  • Design and review complex software architectures, modules, and systems.
  • Decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks and implement appropriate algorithmic solutions.
  • Provide peer technical assessments and contribute to technical research, product plans, schedules, and risk decisions.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced Software Engineers 1 and 2.
  • Review component datasheets and schematics with design engineering as needed.
  • Suggest process improvements and author procedures.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule for on-call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field and at least five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent academic performance, generally demonstrated by a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Demonstrated proficiency designing well-architected software systems and modules.
  • Competence researching fundamental problems and implementing algorithmic solutions.
  • Ability to serve as a lead software engineer on complex software projects.
  • Proficiency writing software in Swift, Objective-C, SwiftUI, UIKit, or other selected languages.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Senior-level iOS software development experience with leadership and mentoring skills is desired.
  • Design architecture experience is desired; aviation industry experience or a pilot background is a plus.
