Responsibilities
- Own software features end-to-end from requirements analysis and system design through implementation, validation, deployment, and maintenance.
- Evolve the embedded software platform and next-generation architecture for the Atlas autonomous pallet-shuttle product family.
- Design, develop, optimize, test, and debug embedded software for autonomous robots using C/C++.
- Drive architecture decisions for distributed robotic systems operating in real-time environments.
- Develop software for robot motion control, communication, and system coordination.
- Apply robotics expertise and Model-Based Design to modern software architectures where appropriate.
- Lead technical discussions, identify technical risks, and drive pragmatic solutions across multidisciplinary R&D teams.
- Promote software quality, documentation, testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices.
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers.
- Collaborate with product management and system architects to translate customer and business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Help shape the medium- and long-term software roadmap for the Atlas product family.
- Occasionally support system integration and customer deployments, primarily in Belgium with limited international travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or Industrial Engineering.
- Extensive experience developing embedded software in modern C/C++; Rust experience is a strong advantage.
- Strong experience designing complex embedded or robotic systems.
- Experience with ROS2 and modern robotics software frameworks.
- Experience with embedded Linux, distributed systems, and real-time software development.
- Experience designing maintainable and scalable software platforms and architectures.
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink or Model-Based Design is an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical-influence skills.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices.
- Fluent English is required; Dutch is an advantage.
