Base Salary
$265k - $300k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define architecture standards and target-state architecture across an engineering division.
- Drive large-scale refactoring and decomposition of shared domain models to establish clear team ownership.
- Make and own high-stakes technical decisions, aligning engineers, Product, and leadership.
- Lead architecture decision documents, design discussions, technical discovery, feasibility, and sizing.
- Set standards for AI-native engineering, including agentic coding, review and test acceleration, repo-native tooling, and MCP servers.
- Prototype and write production code on critical paths while reviewing designs and pull requests across teams.
- Define testing strategy, observability practices, and on-call health for critical healthcare workflows.
- Develop Staff and Senior engineers into technical leaders and shape hiring, leveling, and architecture interviews.
- Partner with Principal Engineers and engineering leadership on organization-wide architecture, code review, testing, and software development lifecycle standards.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of experience delivering software in production, including significant time at Staff level or above.
- Experience setting architecture across multiple teams or an entire engineering organization using Ruby on Rails or a similar open-source stack such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
- Experience leading at least one large-scale refactoring or decomposition of a shared domain model.
- Ability to make and own high-stakes technical decisions under ambiguity and align technical and business stakeholders.
- Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools and a clear perspective on their impact on architecture and engineering practices.
- Excellent written communication skills and experience driving alignment through design documents and decision records.
- Must reside in the United States.
- Preferred experience includes healthcare or regulated domains, FHIR, HL7, EHR integrations, clinical or payer workflows, production LLM-backed or agentic systems, large shared codebases, and AWS services including ECS, RDS, and S3.
