Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, program, debug, modify, troubleshoot, and test embedded firmware.
  • Develop firmware for communication protocols used in drives products, including Ethernet/IP, BACnet, Profibus, Profinet, SNMP, serial communication, and Modbus TCP.
  • Design firmware subsystems that address runtime performance, memory, simplicity, correctness, reusability, reliability, security, and safety.
  • Reuse internal and external firmware components, frameworks, and communication-protocol libraries to accelerate product development.
  • Review subsystem and system designs for system-level implications.
  • Investigate and resolve firmware anomalies with functional test, customer support, and other teams.
  • Maintain the link between requirements and testing while improving engineering processes and best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and globally distributed teams as an individual contributor and leader.
  • Stay current with embedded firmware engineering and cybersecurity methodologies relevant to industrial products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with a firmware concentration, or equivalent; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing communication protocols, including analysis, design, programming, and testing of real-time firmware systems.
  • Proficiency with C/C++ or another middle- to high-level programming language and object-oriented analysis and design.
  • Experience with real-time development and modern engineering practices.
  • Ability to develop high-quality, maintainable firmware subsystems or systems productively.
  • Familiarity with Python, Green Hills Integrity OS and Multi IDE, TCP/IP networking, Git or similar version-control tools, Achilles, Burp Suite, Jira, and Jama.
  • Cybersecurity training or certification and familiarity with embedded and industrial cybersecurity practices are preferred.
  • Familiarity with CIP, CIP Security, Scrum, and SAFe is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and direct activities of other employees and communicate complex technical information clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed, globally distributed organization and demonstrate customer-centric behavior.
