Responsibilities
- Develop mobile-, API-, and microservice-driven digital products.
- Design, develop, and support secure, functional, scalable, and efficient APIs, middleware, and microservices.
- Build cloud-native and cloud-ready solutions using Java, Spring, serverless architecture, and cloud services.
- Use DevOps tools and practices, including Git, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation.
- Create new services that follow standardized development frameworks and maintain high code quality.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, product owners, cross-functional teams, and external parties.
- Deliver projects within agreed timelines using Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Jira, and Confluence.
- Provide hands-on development and resolve issues in development and production environments.
- Continuously modernize technical skills in line with the M-PESA Technology skillset program.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification; computer engineering, software development, or a related subject is also accepted.
- At least 1 year of coding experience outside a university setting.
- Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring, Spring MVC, JEE, Maven, and Spring Cloud.
- Experience with APIs, web services, message queues, microservice architecture, and scalable and elastic platform design.
- Working knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with continuous integration, deployment, Agile, DevOps, testing, and automation tools such as Jenkins, JMeter, Git, Stash, SonarQube, and GitOps.
- Understanding of Docker-based containers, Kubernetes, or other container schedulers.
- Understanding of SOAP and REST APIs and development using Swagger UI.
- Strong understanding of cloud technologies, including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Experience building full-stack solutions using Node or Spring stacks and cloud-native Java solutions.
- Understanding of security principles for web and mobile applications and technology platforms.
- Knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Spring, SOAP, XML, RESTful APIs, IntelliJ, and VS Code is desired.
- Cloud-native technology certification, such as Kubernetes certification, is desired.
- C# or Golang experience is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, creativity, innovation, systems-thinking, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to new technologies and delivery requirements.
