Responsibilities
- Develop firmware solutions for new product introductions, new features, and enhancements to existing smart lock and IoT access products.
- Contribute to firmware scoping, architecture, design, development, testing, validation, production release, and ongoing support.
- Translate project requirements into firmware specifications, design trade-offs, risk assessments, solutions, estimates, test plans, and execution activities.
- Map firmware solutions, align with the team, and follow through on implementation, validation, and release.
- Optimize code size, performance, testing, and product features across products.
- Collaborate with internal and external developers and cross-functional firmware, hardware, mobile, cloud, testing, and non-technical teams.
- Report project progress, issues, risks, and potential solutions, and manage defects through resolution.
- Debug firmware and work with hardware, including hardware bring-up, logic probing, and voltage measurements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- At least 2 years of professional embedded firmware development experience.
- Industry experience developing embedded firmware or software for microcontrollers.
- C/C++ design experience for embedded applications.
- Experience with chip-to-chip communication protocols or interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Experience with IoT connectivity protocols and interoperability standards including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, Matter, and Aliro.
- Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining embedded firmware in bare-metal and RTOS-based environments.
- Knowledge of task scheduling, inter-task communication, timers, interrupts, and resource management.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and version control.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, collaborate, work independently, document work clearly, and follow through on commitments.
- Preferred experience with low-power battery-operated consumer devices, bootloaders, over-the-air firmware update mechanisms, embedded firmware security and signing, production testing and provisioning, electronic hardware, and schematics.
