Senior Software Engineer, Application Infrastructure
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and deliver ultra-reliable, high-performance services and infrastructure used by millions.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across infrastructure, databases, and APIs.
- Define and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
- Collaborate with Product to influence features, technical direction, and long-term product vision.
- Build and operate shared cloud services, libraries, databases, event-driven infrastructure, and developer tools.
- Mentor junior team members and improve team effectiveness.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and operating complex, mission-critical, large-scale distributed systems in the cloud.
- Expertise in asynchronous messaging, event-driven architecture, APIs, and integration patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver clean, maintainable, resilient code.
- Proficiency in Java or Kotlin preferred; experience with other modern programming languages is valued.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to align and inspire cross-functional teams.
- A record of mentoring junior team members and enhancing team effectiveness.
