Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture for agentic planning and execution loops, long-term memory, persona and voice, knowledge routing, and policy enforcement.
- Ship production support systems handling millions of conversations with SLOs, fallbacks, canaries, graceful degradation, human handoff, and safety guardrails.
- Build retrieval and reasoning pipelines that search multiple knowledge sources, apply policy-driven tools, and invoke structured workflows.
- Create evaluation systems using offline rubrics, simulated scenarios, safety tests, cost and latency suites, LLM-as-judge, calibrated human review, CI/CD, and experimentation platforms.
- Drive automation, localization, policy alignment, and rollout strategy with Product, Design, and Operations.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to multiple pods while coaching senior engineers on agentic patterns, reliability, and experimentation.
Requirements
- 10+ years building production ML/AI systems and 4+ years leading complex ML initiatives end-to-end.
- Deep expertise in LLM-driven systems, including inference optimization, prompt and program design, fine-tuning, distillation/LoRA, safety guardrails, and evaluations.
- Strong Python software engineering plus experience with at least one of Go, Java, or C++.
- Hands-on experience with microservices, gRPC/HTTP, cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, and real-time telemetry and observability.
- Demonstrated ownership of high-availability services, including SLO/SLA design, incident response, on-call leadership, and postmortems.
- Experience shipping customer-facing intelligent experiences with measurable impact, including experimentation and metrics analysis.
- Preferred experience with production agentic architectures, RAG over complex policy-heavy knowledge bases, consumer support automation, multilingual NLU/NLG, hallucination mitigation, safety red-teaming, privacy-by-design, experiment frameworks, feature flags, canary or guarded rollouts, and kill switches.

- Base salary is USD $267,000-$297,000 per year for San Francisco and Sunnyvale, California-based roles.
