Responsibilities

  • Develop infrastructure-as-code practices and continuously improve automation and IaC processes.
  • Automate software operations for consistent, reusable deployment across private and public clouds.
  • Develop features and improve the resilience and scalability of Canonical’s cloud and container portfolio.
  • Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Set up, maintain, and use Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, and other observability tools for monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate with development teams on service architecture, documentation, playbooks, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Support globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
  • Work on larger automation projects, share knowledge through mentoring and design sessions, and carry final responsibility for time-critical escalations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field.
  • Deep experience defining operations in code with version control, peer review, and CI/CD for application and infrastructure changes.
  • Strong modern engineering background including peer review, unit testing, source control management, and CI/CD.
  • Large-project Python software development experience.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of Linux storage technologies, including Ceph and databases.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot from the kernel through the web and communicate clearly in English.
  • Familiarity with open-source technologies, especially Ubuntu or Debian, and willingness to work effectively in distributed, fast-changing environments.
