Base Salary
$319k - $479k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop innovative software solutions addressing Block’s highest security risks, including technology fragmentation and security after-the-fact practices.
- Define Block’s multi-year software security technical strategy and guide architecture and engineering decisions.
- Lead common, high-leverage security solutions and infrastructure across Square, Cash App, TBD, and other business units.
- Drive security engineering excellence for critical systems such as tokenization platforms, with emphasis on integrity, performance, and scalability.
- Lead security strategy and engineering excellence for mobile software and platforms across Block’s product ecosystem.
- Champion security reliability engineering practices to improve the resilience and availability of security services and infrastructure.
- Lead technical planning and implementation for high-priority security initiatives and serve as a technical decision-maker and tie-breaker.
- Partner with engineering leaders on Secure SDLC adoption, security architecture reviews, and threat modeling for critical systems.
- Mentor InfoSec engineers and promote technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and documentation.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience developing and shipping production software and critical services, including at least 5 years establishing and scaling security practices in a large modern technology environment.
- Principal-level or equivalent technical leadership and decision-making experience is preferred.
- Mastery of system design and architecture, including solving ambiguous and domain-heavy problems.
- Deep understanding of security vulnerabilities, risks, countermeasures, and compensating controls, particularly in high-volume real-time transaction processing environments.
- Ability to influence executive leadership and engineering teams while balancing security and business risks.
- Ability to write production-quality code or scripts for security automation and tooling.
- Preferred experience leading significant technical initiatives across multiple teams, organizations, and products.
- Preferred experience in financial technology, payments, cryptocurrency, or bitcoin.
- Preferred experience improving engineering security standards and building systems that scale security resources efficiently.
