Video/Image AI/ML Software Engineer - Graduate (Video and Edge, Multimedia Lab) - 2027 Start (PhD)
ByteDanceResponsibilities
- Design video analysis algorithms for ROI, content understanding, feature extraction, and video quality assessment.
- Create databases and develop, optimize, and evaluate video algorithms.
- Design end-to-end video quality optimization strategies combining video analysis, processing, and encoding algorithms such as frame-level rate control.
- Apply algorithms to VOD and live-streaming monitoring, data analysis, and objective algorithm evaluation.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and multimedia platform teams to integrate algorithms into production workflows and validate their impact through A/B testing.
Requirements
- Completing or recently completed a PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline.
- Excellent programming, debugging, and optimization skills in one or more general-purpose languages, including C/C++ or Python.
- Knowledge of image/video analysis or subjective/objective image/video quality algorithms, including technologies such as VMAF, PSNR, and SSIM.
- Hands-on experience with machine learning or deep learning and familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Preferred: experience designing, training, or applying deep learning models, including CNNs, Transformer architectures, and multimodal large language models.
- Preferred: knowledge of video processing algorithms such as super-resolution and diffusion models.
- Preferred: knowledge of video codecs including AVC, HEVC, AV1, and VP9, with experience in video codec design.
- Preferred: experience with ARM Cortex M0/M3/M4 or RISC-V processors and real-time development in an RTOS environment.
- Preferred: strong communication skills, eagerness to learn, and interest in applying advanced technologies to real-world use cases.
