Responsibilities
- Develop and modify front-end and back-end features for the current Westlaw Japan platform and Westlaw Japan 2.0 under senior-engineer guidance.
- Learn existing system architecture, internal libraries, business logic, and legacy codebases to support next-generation development.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team coding standards.
- Identify and resolve defects to improve platform stability and reduce maintenance overhead.
- Execute designs while proactively suggesting improvements.
- Collaborate with product, QA, and senior engineering teams to deliver priorities and deadlines.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
- Continuously develop technical skills and contribute to a positive team culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English.
- At least 3 years of hands-on professional software engineering experience.
- Experience with React and modern frontend technologies.
- Production experience with Java and/or Spring Boot.
- Experience in front-end or back-end development and willingness to grow across the full stack.
- Experience maintaining and modifying existing systems, including reading legacy codebases.
- Proficiency with version-control tools such as GitHub.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and query optimization is a plus.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices is a plus.
- Familiarity with XML-based data structures is a plus.
- Familiarity with Claude or GitHub Copilot and interest in responsible AI-assisted development is a plus.
- Clear technical communication, collaboration, proactive issue escalation, continuous learning, and awareness of ethical considerations in AI development are expected.
