Base Salary
$320k - $485k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build real-time risk decisioning that scores transactions at authorization while balancing fraud loss, approval rates, and latency.
- Build tooling and automation for dispute and chargeback workflows, including review queues, evidence collection, and loss reporting.
- Engineer fraud signals such as device fingerprinting, BIN and issuer signals, velocity features, and cross-account linkage at scale.
- Detect monetization abuse across subscriptions, trials, promotions, and in-app purchases.
- Own metrics including loss rate, dispute rate, authorization approval impact, and false-positive rate.
- Lead investigations into emerging fraud patterns and build layered defenses that adapt to attackers.
- Collaborate with finance, support, legal, data science, payment processors, and platform partners.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis tools.
- Production experience building or operating fraud, risk, or abuse detection systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred: 8+ years of industry software engineering experience focused on payments fraud or risk.
- Preferred: Fluency with card networks, payment service providers such as Stripe and Adyen, Apple and Google in-app purchase platforms, refund flows, and the chargeback and dispute lifecycle.
- Preferred: Direct experience combating card testing, stolen-card monetization, refund and chargeback abuse, subscription and trial abuse, promotional abuse, and friendly fraud.
- Preferred: Understanding of fraud loss accounting, dispute fees, card network monitoring programs, and chargeback rate thresholds.
- Preferred: Experience building hybrid rules-and-ML risk systems with real-time authorization scoring and post-authorization review workflows.
- Preferred: Experience at a marketplace or subscription business or on a processor-side or issuer-side risk team.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience is accepted; the field should be relevant to the role.
