Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of large-scale distributed systems and platform architectures for scalability and reliability.
- Define technical strategy and architecture across organizational boundaries and align engineering direction with business goals.
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted development and connect AI initiatives to measurable engineering outcomes.
- Drive cross-team initiatives, modernization, technical debt reduction, re-platforming, observability, performance, reliability, and operational maturity.
- Partner with engineering, product, and business leadership on priorities, roadmaps, architecture decisions, and strategic initiatives.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers and establish standards for design, code, operations, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to technical due diligence for strategic initiatives and partnerships.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience driving technical strategy across multiple teams or organizations.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
- Deep experience designing large-scale distributed systems or platform architectures and evaluating scalability, reliability, performance, and cost trade-offs.
- Hands-on production experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including cloud-native services and security best practices.
- Preferred experience operating with ambiguity, influencing without direct authority, and aligning senior and staff engineers with leadership.
- Preferred experience with observability, reliability engineering, logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, incident response, and post-mortem improvements.
- Preferred experience with full-stack/API development and Rust, C#, or JavaScript, plus familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML.
- Preferred experience with distributed systems, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, serverless services, managed Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or Bicep.
- Preferred experience with secure coding, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, progressive deployment, relational and non-relational data stores at scale, and technical due diligence.
