Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, and operate scalable backend services for authorization, permissions, and team management.
- Own critical systems that manage secure access to content, profiles, teams, and capabilities.
- Evolve backend architecture and reusable platform capabilities for growing users, use cases, and products.
- Optimize reliability, performance, security, relational database performance, and operational workflows.
- Make pragmatic architectural and technical trade-offs aligned with product and business needs.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners across Spotify.
- Contribute to frontend experiences and data-related work when useful.
- Raise engineering quality through design discussions, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Deep experience designing, building, and operating backend services, with strong knowledge of Java or comparable backend technologies.
- Experience owning distributed, high-scale, or business-critical systems where reliability, performance, and security are important.
- Experience with relational databases at scale, including performance optimization and database tuning.
- Ability to reason about architecture, APIs, dependencies, data flows, and broader platform impacts.
- Experience in a product-driven environment and ability to connect technical decisions to user and business outcomes.
- Pragmatic judgment in making engineering trade-offs and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Effective collaboration and knowledge sharing within and across teams.
- Ability to contribute across the stack, with strongest expertise in backend engineering.
- Adaptability, curiosity, and sound technical judgment as requirements and systems evolve.
