Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development focused on quantum applications and algorithms.
- Design, implement, optimize, and deploy quantum software workloads and optimizations to the Superstaq cloud platform.
- Apply software engineering practices including documentation, linting, testing, and type-checking.
- Interface with Superstaq customers to understand their needs and provide timely support.
- Contribute to government and commercial proposals and the execution of global programs.
- Collaborate with experimental physicists, hardware teams, control teams, researchers, and software engineers to translate theory into practical implementations.
- Publish research findings in scientific journals and present results at conferences.
- Track developments in quantum computer architecture, quantum compilation, and related fields.
- Provide guidance and support to other team members in a collaborative research environment.
Requirements
- A master’s degree in quantum applications, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a directly related field is required.
- High proficiency in programming, preferably with fluency in Python.
- Experience with open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit.
- Professional verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across functions and organizational levels in a matrixed environment.
- Ability to learn complex topics quickly and produce results in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
- Resourceful problem-solving skills and demonstrated expertise in productization efforts.
- Passion for solving complex technical and scientific problems.
- Preferred qualifications include a PhD in quantum computation, physics, computer science, or a related field; knowledge of quantum error correction, fault tolerance, gate decomposition, qubit mapping, routing, and variational quantum algorithms; and experience with materials science applications of quantum computers.
- Preferred technical experience includes professional software engineering practices, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, GCP, AWS, GitHub, access control, encryption at rest, key rotation, logging, HTML/CSS, React, and PyQt.
